Campfire Stories - Girl's Camp

threeriversrespite

Back in July, we were able to provide respite care to older siblings.  It was the first time they had been away from their foster family and the first time their foster parents had been able to get an overnight away to recharge.

The girls were very shy and quiet during this first visit but gradually relaxed and opened up throughout their time at TRR

.  Fast forward to this fall, the girls came back to camp for the girls overnight camp.  Their excitement, comfort and peace in being back at TRR was evident from the beginning.

They were excited to camp in a tent, play games, and eat s'mores by the campfire.  They stayed up late with the other campers talking and sharing stories.  This campfire time is truly therapeutic for these girls.

By the end of camp, they were joking around, playing, and loving being outside and with Heather and the other campers and volunteers.  They were truly coming out of their shell!

After camp, their foster mom stated: "I can't tell you how grateful I am for the rest knowing [the girls] are safe and cared about.  When I picked them up, [one of the girls] said it was the best time she'd ever had in her whole life.  You are helping kids heal and parents rejuvenate so they can keep going!"

You support is making a difference in the lives of children in foster care and the families that care for them.  TRR is a place of rest and healing.

Through your continued prayers and support, we can expand our capacity to provide these experiences to more children in care and significantly impact the next generation.
