May Boy's Camp Re-Cap

On May 8-9 we closed out our Spring Boy's Camp sessions with an awesome camp! We had 6 boys at camp, include 2 first time campers. These boys brought the fun and the energy!

At the beginning of the week, and even Friday morning, the forecast was not promising. We were preparing for lots of rain and planning some indoor activities, but thankfully, those plans were not needed! It ended up being a beautiful weekend.

We started camp with some football and bike riding, before jumping into our ice breaker and dinner. Thank you again to our Fort Johnson Baptist family for providing dinner for these campers! The food was a hit!

After dinner, we took a hike along the trails and then headed to the field to play more football, pet the goats, and chase the chickens. The boys ran off some energy before we lit a campfire and enjoyed some s'mores.

We enjoyed some stories around the campfire before heading to our tents for the night. Our new campers were able to overcome some fears of sleeping outside for the first time, and they did great.

We woke up with the sun (after expecting rain!) on Saturday morning and quickly broke down the camp, putting tents away and getting everything to the pavilion in preparation for the pending rain...then Matt checked the weather forecast. Thankfully there was no rain for the day! This was a huge blessing!

We started the day with a hearty breakfast - the TRR camp traditional - pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage. During this time, our friend Shawn was teaching the older boys how to light a camp fire with ferro rods. This was a highlight for the boys.

After breakfast, we did our morning devotion time in the chapel and had a great discussion around Psalm 100 and God's faithfulness and love for us.

We closed out the morning with some fishing, which all the boys enjoyed, for the most part. After fishing we played a few more games and rode bikes before eating lunch. After lunch, we spent the afternoon swimming and playing baseball in the field.

This camp was a blast and these kids were so much fun to hang out with! I want to thank Mr. Shawn for spending the weekend with us and teaching us how to start a fire with ferro rods. It is always fun to have Mr. Shawn join us for camp!

This camp was our final boys camp for the spring. Our next boys camp is our summer day camp in July before we have 2 more tent campouts in the fall.
